The sale of e-bikes and regular bicycles is booming in the Grand Duchy. However, this high demand has repercussions on the approval of the respective subsidies, which are now taking up to a year.
At the beginning of July, close to 10,500 applications for e-bikes had not yet been treated, as officials were still busy working on documents from last year’s summer.
In her response to a respective parliamentary enquiry by MP Fred Keup (ADR), Minister for the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development Carole Dieschbourg praises the success of the initiative, especially in the context of the pandemic. Up to 6,000 applications per month have reached the government since the beginning of the Covid-19 outbreak.
Given the “exceptional” volume of demands, it is not possible to process the files any quicker, even with the additional personnel that has been hired over past months, Minister Dieschbourg concluded.
