Vaccination centres such as the ones on Kirchberg, in Mondercange, and in Ettelbruck are closing. Monica Camposeo from RTL reflects on the vaccination campaign as well as the possible side effects of the Covid-19 jabs.
741,948 jabs have been given in Luxembourg so far. Some people had refused the vaccine initially, but mainly because they were offered a vaccine they did not want. Such cases have definitely decreased, according to Dr Jean-Claude Schmit, director of Health.
In terms of side effects, he assures that the current percentage of people experiencing secondary effects is low. Dr Schmit adds that all four vaccines have fairly similar percentages of reported side effects.
On Friday morning, the Luxexpo vaccination centre was quiet, given it closes on Saturday. Here, very few complications occurred, which often involved weather conditions or needle fears.
Dr Silvana Masi, who is in charge of the Luxexpo vaccination centre reports that incidents happened a few times a day. The more they vaccinated, the more people were there that could have experienced side effects.
Often, they could foresee complications given the patients were stressed even before the jab was given. Certain people were taken straight into emergencies, so they could lie down even before they felt ill, Dr Masi explains.
After the vaccination campaign, the Ministry of Health is looking into the immunity rates via serological tests conducted in elderly homes.
The first results are in, according to Dr Schmit. The rates of antibodies lies at an astonishing 95 percent, with other people slightly less with 90 percent. Overall, the director is more than pleased with the results as they are highly encouraging. However, it is yet to be determined how long such antibodies will be effective.
In terms of deaths following a jab, seven cases have been reported involving either Biontech/Pfizer and AstraZeneca. The Ministry of Health responds to this in writing, highlighting that the death cases are not being linked to the vaccines yet. However, they are in the process of making such data available sometime soon.
