The first shipment of the BioNtech/Pfizer vaccine is expected to arrive in Luxembourg on 26 December, with vaccinations beginning on 28 December.

Prime Minister Xavier Bettel shared the news during Monday's press conference after the EU formally approved the use of the vaccine.

With help from the National Ethics Committee, the government decided that medical staff would form the first priority group for vaccinations. The process will begin on 28 December at the Victor Hugo Hall in Limpertsberg, while further vaccines will be rolled out amongst staff at nursing homes from 30 December. This first phase in the country's vaccination scheme will require around 35,000 doses of the vaccine.

The EU is expected to approve the Moderna vaccine early next year, with a decision expected by 4-6 January.
