
Three people were inside the car at the time. A 78-year-old man suffered major injuries following the incident, which lead to further complications and his eventual death several days later.
According to the coroner’s report, the accident was the leading cause of death. A technical expert later examined the car and could not find any evidence for the supposed blocking of the steering wheel, which the accused driver noted as the reason for his crash.
At the end of the trial, the man offered an apology to the family of the victim. Their attorney made a demanded for a €350,000 compensation, while the defendant of the accused emphasised that neither drugs, nor alcohol, nor phones were involved in the accident.
The prosecutor agreed with latter statement and proposed to award three months of prison on probation, a monetary fine, as well as a driving ban of 2 years.
The verdict will be announced on 29 October.
