On Tuesday, Météolux has unveiled its climate assessment of spring 2020, stating that it had been very mild, too dry and very sunny.

According to the weather station based on Findel Airport: "Spring 2020 stands out with a sunshine record".

With 796.6 hours of sunshine, this is "the sunniest spring ever observed in the history of the weather station", stated Météolux.

The previous record of spring 2011 (792.1 hours) has therefore been beaten and pushed to second place.

A consequence directly related to this record is the fact that this spring was also deemed too dry by Météolux.

"With a seasonal accumulation of 121.4 l/m2, the spring 2020 has also shown a significant rain deficiency. Compared to the long-term average from 1981-2010 (206 l/m2), it rained about 41% less"

Despite high temperatures, this spring is only the third hottest on record, with an average seasonal temperature of 10.9 °C.

In this context, some may remember the springs preceding the heat waves of 2007 and 2011, when the average temperature climbed to 11.9°C.
