Luxembourg's association of physical education teachers lament that there will not be any classes until the end of the school year.
The president of the APEP association, Claude Schumacher, explained that physical education may indeed not be a priority given the current situation. He nevertheless argued that there could have been other medium-term alternatives for school sports.
He explained that physical education teachers would not have included contact sports in the curriculum. Table tennis, badminton, or sports enhancing stamina and coordination skills would have been viable alternatives, Schumacher said. The president of the association also expressed his hope that face masks will not be mandatory until 15 July.
The association urges parents to motivate their children to engage in sports and physical activities outside of school. Representatives also hope that the government is aware of the potential impact on physical health due to the ongoing movement restrictions.
