The government has released a statement reiterating the importance of respecting coronavirus measures. Not doing so can lead to a fine, or imprisonment.
A statement sent out by the government states that the measures listed in said statement were made under the law of 25 March 1885, concerning measures to be taken to counter the propagation of contagious diseases.
The closure measures which target establishments in the cultural, recreational, sports and HORECA sectors are absolutely necessary for reasons of public health, given the pathogenic and contagious nature of the virus. See our summary of Saturday and Sunday's press conferences for further detail.
The same applies to the rules which limit the use of public roads and spaces to the following activities only:
- procurement of food, pharmaceuticals and basic necessities;
- travel to health facilities;
- travel to your workplace for the exercise of professional or commercial activity;
- assistance and care for the elderly, minors, the dependent, the disabled and the particularly vulnerable;
- travel to financial and insurance institutions in case of emergency due to force majeure or a situation of necessity;
- leisure activities (walking, jogging, playgrounds, etc.), subject to respecting an interpersonal distance of 2 meters.
Compliance with the rules will be monitored by the Grand Ducal police, reads the statement, and failure to comply with them is punishable by fines and imprisonment set out in article 2 of the above-mentioned law.
