Showcasing the minimum wage difference between the two neighbouring countries, a teenager working full-time in Luxembourg will earn more than French workers earning the growth-indexed minimum wage (Smic).

According to the latest Statec and Inspectorate of Labour and Mines (ITM) data, a teenage employee in Luxembourg outearns French people on the minimum wage as of August.

A teenager aged between 15 and 17 and working full-time in Luxembourg has the right to a gross wage of €1,567.31 per month, representing 75% of the minimum non-qualified wage in Luxembourg. Article L.222-1 of the labour code guarantees this amount for teenage employees.

However, this figure is evidence of the fact that Luxembourg has the highest minimum wage of the entire EU, given that teenage employees earn more than somebody in France earning the growth-indexed minimum wage. The minimum wage in France lies at €1,521.22 gross per month, namely €46.09 less than the amount earned by Luxembourg teenagers working full-time.
