St George's International School Luxembourg has shared the exam results for their Class of 2026, and students have plenty to be happy about.
The school’s Year 13 students, who completed A-level examinations and BTEC (Business and Technology Education Council) courses, achieved 44% of their grades at A* or A, or the BTEC equivalents of Distinction* or Distinction. A total of 84% of grades fell between A* and C or the corresponding BTEC grades.
There were 51 students graduating this year, making it the largest number in the school’s 35-year history. Graduates are set to continue their studies in subjects ranging from aerospace engineering and neuroscience to medicine, psychology, international business, history, and politics.
Their destinations include the University of Manchester, the London School of Economics and Political Science and King’s College London in the UK, as well as universities and institutions in Austria, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, France, and Ireland.
According to Secondary Headteacher Claire Simmonds, the results reflected the work and resilience of the students as well as the support provided by staff.
She highlighted the range of university destinations secured by the graduating class: "What I’m proudest of is not simply the strength of the grades, but the breadth of destinations our students have gone on to secure, from Manchester to Milan, Paris to Dublin."
St George’s follows the National Curriculum of England, adapted for its international community in Luxembourg. Students in Years 12 and 13 work towards A-level qualifications, while those in Years 10 and 11 complete International General Certificate of Secondary Education, or IGCSE, qualifications.
The school also provides BTEC vocational qualifications for students in Years 10 to 13. Unlike courses centred on traditional theory-based examinations, BTECs focus on practical and work-related learning.
The Class of 2026 was the first graduating cohort at St George’s to include students completing BTEC Level 3 qualifications in Sport and Business Studies.
Results were also strong among younger students. In Year 11, 53% of IGCSE and BTEC grades were either grades 9 or 8, or Distinction* and Distinction. 97% were between grades 9 and 4 or the equivalent BTEC range from Distinction* to Pass.
Year 12 students taking AS-level examinations recorded 70% of their grades at A or B, while 85% were between A and C.
St George’s Principal Zeba Clarke said offering both academic and applied routes was intended to allow students to follow pathways suited to their strengths and ambitions.
"These excellent results reflect their dedication, grit and determination", Clarke said, adding that the graduating students had also greatly contributed to school life as mentors and role models for younger pupils.
She described the examination results as the beginning of the next stage for the students, with members of the graduating class now preparing to continue their education at institutions across Europe and beyond.
