The tunnel in Belval was closed to traffic on Sunday morning between 7am and 1pm as the CGDIS undertook training exercises.
The national roads administration (ponts et chaussées), national emergency services organisation (Corps grand-ducal d'incendie et de la sécurité - CGDIS), the workplace and mines inspection agency (inspection du travail et des mines - ITM) and the Luxembourg police force all teamed up in a major test operation designed to assess response to severe accident situations.
These exercises are a legal requirement and are necessary to ensure that the emergency services have the means and skills to react swiftly when a a crisis situation arises and in order to guarantee the public's safety.
