Orange AlertA warm week lies ahead with up to 38 degrees

Meteolux has issued a yellow alert for Monday and an orange alert for Tuesday.

This week is going to be hot!

Following the original yellow alert, Meteolux now issued an Orange alert on Monday morning. Some schools have also suspended classes later this week.

While temperatures on Monday are expected to rise to a maximum of 32 degrees, the expected temperatures for Tuesday are between 33 and 35 degrees. The alerts apply to the entire country.

Mid-week, the heatwave is set to reach up to 38 degrees, while local night time temperatures are likely to stay above 20 degrees.

Keep cool: Water parks and other awesome pools in LuxembourgThe heatwave is a Europe-wide phenomenon. It is important to be especially vigilant on how the heat affects children, the elderly and people carrying out physical labour. People are advised to drink enough water.

Plan canicule

As a result of the expected high temperatures, we would like to remind you that people aged 75 years or above can register for home visits under the "Plan canicule" (heatwave plan).

Under this plan, employees of one of 12 participating home care networks will carry out home visits to check up on people. People who are interested in this service should contact the Red Cross by calling 27 55 between 7.00 am and 7.00 pm.

The Ministry of Health also calls on people to drink at least 1.5 litres of water per day when it is warm outside. They also advise to avid strenuous physical activity and, if you have to work outside, to listed to your body in order to avoid heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Especially elderly people, those with chronic problems or those who regularly take medication,or are on their own should be very careful. Furthermore, children should not unnecessarily be exposed to the heat or to direct sunlight.
