The protesters fled police, moving the demonstration away from the special perimeter reserved for the protest between the Glacis car park and the Philharmonie building in Kirchberg. According to witnesses at the scene, police patrols temporarily closed the Christmas markets in the city centre to prevent public endangerment. The protesters assembled at the Place Guillaume II (Knuedler) outside the town hall, away from their designated space.

The police reported a group of around sixty demonstrators while a source at the scene identified 200. This same source claimed several demonstrators had their megaphones confiscated by police. Shortly after 4pm, the demonstration was dissolved, while a strong police presence remained in the city centre.

Although the protest was largely peaceful, police carried out several identity checks as the demonstration took place away from the agreed perimeter. Eight people were arrested while another received a verbal warning
