During a large-scale inspection on Thursday afternoon, police issued fines to 40 motorists for using their mobile phones while driving.

The operation, carried out by the Foetz police at a toll booth checkpoint, focused on driver distraction and verifying vehicle documentation. A total of 70 vehicles were checked, with 40 drivers fined €250 and receiving four points on their licence for mobile phone use behind the wheel.

In addition, three other drivers were penalised for issues including failure to present a valid technical inspection certificate, driving without a valid licence, and irregularities with number plates.

Later that evening, a police patrol spotted a driver at a petrol station in Potaschberg who showed clear signs of intoxication. A breathalyser test confirmed alcohol consumption, and the driver was immediately handed a provisional driving ban.

Shortly afterwards in Dudelange, police responded to a report of a suspected drunk driver. Officers arrived quickly, and following another positive test, a second provisional driving ban was issued.
