The anniversary occupies an important spot in the recently published activity report.

According to the director of Info-handicap, Olivier Grüneisen, the organisation has accomplished a lot over the last 25 years. While the state of affairs is by no means perfect, progress has been made in a range of areas, including accessibility.

Even though there is naturally still room for improvement, several measures have been put in place over the last 25 years in order to make trains, buses, and Luxembourg City as a whole more accessible to everyone. The service Adapto is also available to those who cannot use public transport due to their disability.

Technological developments and IT have benefitted people with disabilities. The process of obtaining documents has for example been made easier. A number of applications and braille devices can also help visually impaired people.

Some difficulties persist

Info-handicap hopes that a new law on accessibility will live up to expectations.

Hopefully, the law in question will improve the housing situation as well as the the accessibility of medical practices. They also hope to change to existing structures by introducing the obligation to make inaccessible buildings accessible to all.

It is also important to ensure accessibility not only in Luxembourg City, but throughout the country as a whole, says the director of Info-Handicap.

Finally, Grüneisen hopes that the current guardianship law will be reformed. The law dates back to 1982 and urgently requires revision, he said. This case is still pending.
