Poverty is an increasingly difficult 'reality' to avoid in Luxembourg. According to Eurostat, the risk of poverty, before social transfers are taken into consideration, stands at 29%.
This risk is particularly high in young men and women, where finding cash for heating in winter is also a problem.
Moreover, the figures for the corresponding financial aid in Luxembourg speak for themselves: in 2019, social offices distributed around €190,000 in financial aid to 410 households to enable them to cope with the expenditure on electricity, gas and fuel oil.
These figures were released by the Minister for Family Affairs in response to a parliamentary question by Sven Clement, MP for the Pirate Party.
Fuel poverty is a subject that is dealt with by municipal social offices, where aid is decided and paid.
