Among the 2,727 infections detected last week, the incidence rate was 723.08 per 100,000 for the non-vaccinated population and 288.43 per 100,000 for those fully vaccinated.

For the week of 13-19 December, the number of people testing positive for Covid-19 increased from 2,593 to 2,727 (+5%). It should be noted that unvaccinated people are more than twice as likely to be infected compared to fully vaccinated individuals.

Among hospital admissions, 28 out of 58 patients in standard care were unvaccinated (30 were fully vaccinated), while 16 in 22 patients in intensive care were unvaccinated.

The number of PCR tests performed during the week of 13-19 December increased from 30,536 to 30,921.

59 people reported a positive rapid antigen test, compared to 41 in the previous week, bringing the number of positive results from rapid tests to a total of 676.

The average age of those diagnosed with Covid-19 is 32.2 years. Between 13 and 19 December, there were nine new deaths related to Covid-19. The average age of the deceased is 78 years.

For the reporting period, the effective reproduction rate increased to 1.00 (0.98 the previous week), while the positivity rate on all tests performed (prescriptions, contact tracing) increased from 8.49% to 8.82%.

The incidence rate increased to 430 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over 7 days, compared to 408 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the previous week.

Compared to the previous week, the incidence rate has increased in all age groups except in the 30-44 (-2%) and 60-74 (-20%) age groups. The greatest increase is recorded for 0–14-year-olds (+16%) followed by the 45–59-year-olds (+13%). The highest incidence rate is recorded among 0–14-year-olds with 773 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The lowest incidence rate is recorded in the 75+ age group (140 cases per 100,000 inhabitants).

Regarding the education sector, the Vauban and Lycée français secondary schools reported increased infection numbers. 72 children were tested positive, 28 classes were subject to sanitary measures.

As for vaccinations, 40,000 doses were administered last week. 4,012 people received their first dose, 2,890 their second, and 33,853 received a booster shot. In total, Luxembourg has administered 1,025,856 doses of Covid-19 vaccines so far. Over 440,800 people are considered fully vaccinated, corresponding to 79.7% of the Grand Duchy’s total population over the age of 12.
