Luxembourg’s Prime Minister, Luc Frieden, Minister for Home Affairs, Léon Gloden, and Police Director General, Pascal Peters, attended the official ceremony at Findel, where the new officers were honoured as they joined the force.

Prime Minister Frieden commended the dedication of the new officers, emphasising the great responsibility they have accepted to ensure that everyone in Luxembourg can live in safety and freedom. Minister Gloden reaffirmed the government’s priority of developing a police force that is closer to the population, structured around the four Ps: personnel, presence, proximity, and prevention. He observed that ongoing modernisation and increased patrols are already delivering fruitful results.

Director General Pascal Peters extended his congratulations to the new officers and highlighted the growing appeal of a policing career in Luxembourg. The selection process remains highly competitive, with 465 applicants vying for a place in the 2023 and 2025 intakes, and 190 candidates ultimately beginning training. Following two years of training – or one year for the C2 group – the 144 graduates are now moving into operational units throughout the country, strengthening teams and filling gaps left by retiring officers.

Since 2020, the Grand Ducal Police have pursued a robust recruitment strategy, training approximately 200 new recruits each year. Recent intakes included 176 officers in 2023, 170 in 2024, and 159 in 2025. This sustained recruitment effort aims to keep pace with Luxembourg’s increasing population and the expanding responsibilities of the police.

Succession planning is already underway: 163 trainee officers will begin practical placements in May, while 201 new candidates – selected from 650 participants in the end-of-2025 recruitment competition – are set to start training on 4 May.
