The National Society of Automotive Traffic (SNCT)'s technical inspections are now more expensive as of 1 February. On Monday, we reported on the reaction of the ACL, which accused the government of trying to discourage driving.

In addition to the ACL, the Luxembourg Consumer Association (ULC) has hit out at the government and called for the price increases to be revoked immediately and going back to 1 February.

The ULC called it an unashamed price increase and questioned whether this would eventually fund free public transport.

The Luxembourg Oldtimer Federation has also denounced the move alongside Pirate Party MP Marc Goergen, who has submitted a parliamentary question on the justification for such a move. Goergen also wanted to know what type of improvements would come alongside the price increase.

On Tuesday, the management of the SNCT reacted to the uproar via a press release. The press release explained that the organisation must conform to European legislation and as a trading company, has had to deal with rising costs without always raising service prices correspondingly.

The SNCT stressed that this was only the sixth price increase in the last twenty years. The press release went on to highlight that the intervals between technical inspections had become longer, in turn causing the company's costs to rise.

Finally, the SNCT highlighted its investment in the quality of its services. As of 18 February, will offer new digital services for professional customers, which will be introduced to private customers on 4 March.
