The Ministry of the Environment confirmed in a press release on Wednesday that evidence has been found suggesting the presence of a wolf near Koerich/Simmern.
According to the press release, the snowfall on Saturday night revealed traces of a large canine. The canine left pawprints over a space of 400 metres and the ministry stated that it could not exclude the possibility that this was a wolf.
The ministry also reported that traces of urine were found, a sample of which has been sent to the Senckenberg Institute in Gelnhausen, Germany for analysis. The results will arrive in a few weeks.
In July 2017, authorities confirmed the presence of a wolf in Luxembourg (in Garnich) for the first time in 124 years.
