Major disruption affected the Metz–Thionville–Luxembourg railway line on Wednesday morning after a freight train broke down, blocking traffic towards the Grand Duchy.

According to the French national railway operator SNCF, services between Thionville and Luxembourg have been suspended since 6.55am, with the stalled train reportedly stopped near Zoufftgen.

The SNCF indicated that train services were expected to resume around 9.45am, though for the moment, no information has been provided about replacement bus services.

For their part, Luxembourg's national railway company CFL confirmed the breakdown but did not provide any further details.
