The man shot and killed at the wheel of his car by police in Bonnevoie on Wednesday was known to authorities.

Reports came in Wednesday afternoon concerning a serious incident in Bonnevoie. Media chatter was confirmed via the official Twitter account of the Luxembourg police force, stating that armed action had indeed been taken.

An eyewitness account has come in from a construction worker who was mere meteres away from the incident in Bonnevoie.

At 4pm Wednesday afternoon, on rue des Ardennes in Bonnevoie, officers from Luxembourg's police force had to take drastic action when a routine stop and search took a turn for the ugly, leading to the driver of one vehicle trying to evade the police, by speeding off in the direction of the Bonnevoie church.

The witness, a male, who is yet to be named states; “There were many police cars following the Mercedes.”

The witness saw that the Mercedes sped from the Rue des Ardennes and a police vehicle, which came from the Rue Sigismond, attempted to intercept and halt the suspect’s car.

The car nearly collided with the police vehicle in the middle of a pedestrian crossing.

According to further witnesses, two police officers got out of their vehicle and one ordered the suspect to stand still whilst taking aim with his firearm.

The witnesses go on to describe the driver as sweating heavily and being pale in appearance, he then made as if to accelerate in the direction of the officers.

An officer shot once through the windshield and twice through the side of the car.

The car narrowly missed colliding with another vehicle and drove into the wall of a house and then finally came to rest after colliding with a tree on the church square.

Chloé, an employee from a nearby restaurant added the following details; "Completely out of the blue, we heard three shots and then we saw the car had collided with a tree."
