Discover Luxembourg's most popular vegetarian and vegan restaurants in the RTL-Reader's Choice top ten list.

Once a niche preference with limited dining options, vegetarian and vegan cuisine has developed a strong presence in Luxembourg’s culinary landscape. In the past two decades, what was once a fringe lifestyle choice has evolved into a mainstream trend, reflected in both growing demand and the expanding menus of restaurants across the country.
Fully vegetarian or vegan eateries were rare twenty years ago; today, they are not only more common but often celebrated for their creativity, sustainability, and flavour. Whether for health, ethical, or environmental reasons, more people are embracing meat-free meals – and not just vegetarians.

To highlight this shift, RTL recently asked its readers to vote for the best vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Luxembourg. Thousands responded, and the results show a diverse mix of cozy cafés, innovative bistros, and fine dining destinations.
Here are the top 10 winners of the RTL Readers' Choice for Best Vegetarian and Vegan Food in Luxembourg:

Reader's Choice Top 10: Best vegetarian food in Luxembourg

1st place: Bitz a Kaffi Haus, Diekirch (Vegan & Vegetarian)

Opened: 2018 (moved to current location in 2022)
Address: 79 Avenue de la Gare, 9233 Diekirch
Contact: 26 80 45 01
Most popular dish: Vegetarian/vegan bowls and croque monsieurs

At first glance, you might think you’ve walked into the wrong place. Opening the door to Bitz a Kaffi Haus, visitors find themselves in what looks like a sewing supply shop. But a few steps further in, a cosy bistro with a charming terrace opens up, right between threads, fabrics and sewing needles. And believe it or not, this hidden gem is where our readers say you’ll find Luxembourg’s best vegetarian and vegan food.

The café has become a firm favourite. Even shortly after opening in the morning, tables fill up with customers enjoying coffee, plant-based bowls and Croque Monsieurs.

Founded in 2018 by Flemish-born Winny Keersmaekers, the café originally operated in central Diekirch. But four years later, the space had become too small. In 2022, the team relocated to Avenue de la Gare, where the concept grew from a waffle café into a full vegetarian bistro with a sunny terrace overlooking the Sûre river.

Since then, the menu has grown, and now there's a wide selection of freshly prepared vegetarian and vegan bowls, Croque Monsieurs, or tacos – as well as sweet treats like ice cream, waffles, or pancakes... and of course, everything that makes a snack lover's heart beat faster.

Winny Keersmaekers and his team emphasize that they don't serve any vegetarian meat substitutes – for example, a vegetarian version of a burger. However, if someone requests it, they can get it as a side, served separately from the dish. The dishes themselves are clearly presented, showing exactly what's in them, and are complete meals that exist entirely without protein substitutes – and you don't really miss it.

In addition to the food, there are now also non-alcoholic mocktails to enjoy, which are especially popular during the summer, according to the owners, who – along with their daughter and another team member – were absolutely thrilled to have taken first place in the RTL Readers’ Choice.

RTL would also like to congratulate team Bitz a Kaffi Haus on coming first – it was a thrilling poll that kept us all in suspense until the end.

2nd place: Rucolino (completely vegan)

Opened: November 3, 2020
Address: 15 Rue du Commerce, 3450 Dudelange
Contact: +352 26 51 29 59
Most popular dish: Focaccia filled with pesto, Sloppy Dan burger

Dany Zenari, owner of Rucolino in Dudelange, decided to go vegan in 2018. Around the same time, he began working with a former colleague on the Rucolina project. It took two years to fully develop the restaurant’s concept and identity. The process was somewhat slowed down – especially due to Covid – but by the end of 2020, the doors of the vegan restaurant finally opened.

Zenari is particularly proud of the focaccia – a product he and his team spent a long time perfecting. Their dough clearly stands out from the crowd, thanks in large part to experiments with fermentation, which have led to an excellent final result. A customer favorite is also the Focaccia Bombs – small rolls filled with homemade pesto and vegan mozzarella.

From the very beginning, the Sloppy Dan has been Rucolino’s signature burger, featuring homemade herb king oyster mushrooms and served, of course, in their own focaccia bun.

During the first three years, which he ran alongside business partner Chris Diederich, they have experienced rewarding days with a growing number of loyal customers. Offering an alternative to the more conventional culinary options in the area has clearly resonated with people.

Even though business continues to go well and the feedback on the food remains overwhelmingly positive, Dany Zenari admits that things started to slow down in 2024, and 2025 has been the most difficult year so far. There are many reasons for this, and he's certainly not the only restaurant affected. The main factor, according to the restaurant owner, is likely inflation – which eventually hit the gastronomy sector hard, and understandably made people more hesitant to eat out.

That’s why he’s especially pleased that this year’s Readers’ Choice focused on vegan and vegetarian food culture – and he is even more thrilled that his Dudelange-based vegan restaurant earned an outstanding 2nd place.

3rd place: Beim Struwweltëntert (vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisine)

Opened: December 2024
Address: 16 Rue de Luxembourg, 7480 Tuntange (Helperknapp)
Contact: +352 26 88 32 2
Most popular dish: Menu changes monthly

Local, seasonal, and "organic – these are the core principles at Beim Struwweltëntert, the restaurant run by Joran Didelot, who is both owner and head chef. The philosophy is simple: what grows in the garden ends up on the plate. That means you definitely won’t find oranges from Spain here. Around 98% of everything is made in-house – from the bread, to the ravioli, to the ice cream.

Guests can choose between four different starters, main dishes, and desserts, and the menu changes every month. Among those four options, the vegetarian dish consistently ranks as one of the most frequently ordered. This month, the standout may very well be the cannelloni stuffed with a selection of mushrooms and served with peas in a light broth – a strong contender for July’s top dish.

Didelot works with local farmers like Bëschhaff in Lintgen and Krautgaart in Steinfort, makes use of surplus vegetables from produce boxes, and sources unsprayed, seasonal ingredients that travel minimal distances before arriving on the diners’ plates in Tuntange.

Still, implementing a clean, regional, seasonal, and organic concept isn’t always easy in practice, as Didelot openly admits. Not because of a lack of motivation or possibility, but simply because the cost of such goods is sometimes so high that it becomes difficult to pass that on to the customer in a viable way. And of course, running such a concept outside Luxembourg City comes with challenges – especially when it comes to attracting enough guests, which is often more difficult than one might hope.

Those who have visited, however, seem truly impressed – and voted enthusiastically for the restaurant in Tuntange, earning Beim Struwweltëntert a well-deserved 3rd place in the Readers’ Choice awards.

4th place: Mesa Verde (vegetarian, vegan, and fish)

Tucked away a little in a corner on Fort Neipperg, the Indian restaurant Krishna Vilas opened its doors shortly after Covid. In October, it was announced that La Distillerie from Buerglënster will be moving to Findel, operating under the name Fields. In the same year, he not only regained the coveted Green Star but also earned a full Michelin star once again.
