You can find Sazio in the charming streets of Grund. Even though it only opened in 2024, it already feels like a place people know, with a steady flow of guests coming in and out.

The idea was born when the former owner of Bosso retired, and Ricardo, Henrik, Sergio, and Tim decided to take over the space and create something entirely new. As Ricardo explained, choosing Italian cuisine felt like the obvious move with its honest nonna food rooted in tradition, but far more than just pizza and pasta... The entire place was renovated, and the terrace is currently being refreshed to be ready for spring and summer.

At the beginning, they had some help shaping the menu, but after three months of testing, they fully agreed on the menu. Today, the menu isn’t fixed. Every month there are 6 to 7 new suggestions, with lighter, fresher dishes arriving in for spring, but the classics stay on. Sazio feels chic but in a cosy way, just like the food they serve. While it looks compact from the outside, the place is actually much bigger than I thought.

The main entrance with the bar can host around 20 people upstairs, there are two rooms, one for 45 guests and the piano room for 22. It’s also possible to rent out spaces for stand-up dinners, company events, celebrations, or even weddings. The terrace, in particular, is a beautiful spot for special occasions (something I’ve been lucky enough to witness myself when I attended my best friend’s wedding).

During my visit, I interviewed Ricardo in a brand-new room that’s about to open, a small épicerie-style space, where you can eat surrounded by Italian products that are also available to buy. What I loved was that the original stone wall has been kept, which gives the room both character but also a natural cooling effect (something that will come in handy in summer).

And something I didn’t know before: Sazio even has a mini club that you can rent free of charge (with a minimum of 25 guests). You get access to the sound system, lighting, and a bartender, and you can party until 1am any day of the week (Tuesday can be your new ‘Jeudredi’), all you need is to just bring your phone or laptop and you’re set.

The food

The menu offers a wide selection of pizzas and pastas, from comforting classics to more standout dishes. You can find your classic beef ragù Bolognese or something more special like the Paccheri Filetto – beef fillet, fresh tomato sauce, mozzarella, and piquillo peppers. The ingredients are sourced from Italian suppliers in Luxembourg, who deliver fresh products directly to the restaurant.

My friend went for the Vegetarian Pizza (€22) with DOP tomato sauce, mozzarella fior di latte, courgette, peppers, aubergine, cherry tomatoes, and piquillo peppers. I chose one of the monthly suggestions: the Pizza ai 3 Salumi (€21) with tomato sauce, mozzarella, spicy salami, Italian sausage, and crispy pancetta.

You know the size and toppings are generous when you’re trying to squeeze in that last pizza slice (which we tried but failed, so happy doggy bag it was). Unfortunately, we didn’t have space for dessert, but the menu goes beyond the usual tiramisu and crème brûlée. One of the more unusual options is a Pizza mille-feuille with sabayon ice cream and chocolate ganache!

Sazio also has an impressively large drinks menu, especially when it comes to cocktails – because what would we do without the Italian apperitivo? You get the classics, like Bellini, Aperol Spritz but also a tad more special twists such as a Limoncello Spritz or the Italicus Spritz.

Final thoughts

Even though the setting is more modern than your classic Italian trattoria, the warmth still comes through, especially thanks to the kind and attentive service. Sazio feels like a place where you can come for a relaxed dinner, a celebration, or simply a good pizza with friends.
