The humorous and heartwarming masterpiece, The Good Doctor, is a comedy play by Neil Simon, based on a series of short stories by Anton Chekhov.
Melissa sat down with Artemios, Director of The Good Doctor, and actress Chantelle to discuss the play in more detail.
Whilst the play premiered in 1973 and is set in the 1890’s, it is as relevant as ever to its audience today.
Artemois explains that the short stories within the play are about being human – the play addresses feelings of oppression, love, and hope…people fall in love, people experience disappointment, and people have hopes and dreams. Emotions transcend time, and so the audience is able to identify with and relate to the characters irrespective of the time or country in which the play is set.
The play is structured as a series of vignettes, with each scene presenting a different story that captures the absurdity and humour of everyday life – another reason that the audience can relate to the characters.
Produced by New World Theatre Club (NWTC) and MITOS, the play is running from 13–16 March and will take place in Oberanven. More details can be found on the website here.
