Saturday evening marked the beginning of the 6th annual 'Gala des Etoiles' at the Grand Theatre - a highlight for all ballet lovers.

Star dancers from all over the world are performing to this year's theme, A Breeze of Russian Seasons, at the 6th annual Gala des Etoiles two day event. Aside from the classic performances, there are a couple of experiments this year also, which gives the gala a new flair.

For six years, organisers of the dance event have been bringing the crème de la crème of the ballet scene to Luxembourg. As usual, this year's event welcomes some renowned ballet companies, such as the Royal Ballet London and the Wiener Staatsballet.  According to Georges Rischette of DanceXperience asbl, and organiser of the gala, the familial atmosphere, in particular, makes dancers want to return to Luxembourg every year.

New to the gala programme, this year, is the inclusion of Hip Hop. Indeed, Luxembourgish dancer, Kendra Horsburgh, and Francesco Costa from the Wiener Staatsballett breathe fresh air into the event by combining ballet with hip hop. Kendra says it is refreshing to dance with Francesco and to break from traditional dance. The Luxembourgish choreographer, who is very active internationally, enjoys returning to Luxembourg to share her experiences.

In addition to the successful dance professionals who can be seen on stage, the Gala des Etoiles also focuses on young talent. Those who would like to find out what it's like to work with a new dance coach can participate in a number of workshops.

The final show of this year's Gala des Etoiles will take place at 5pm on Sunday evening. If you would love to see the big names of the ballet world live on stage, make sure you do not miss this event.
