Brazilian guitarist, singer and composer João Gilberto, one of the pioneers of Bossa Nova, has passed.

His family just confirmed the news.
Gilberto made a name for himself through the particular way in which he played guitar, used rhythm and sang softly. He is also known for writing the song “The Girl from Ipanema” for fellow initiator Carlos Jobim.
