Early spring is often the season for releasing new music in Luxembourg, and most of it sounds just about what you expect from the artist, but it is a rare occurrence for a new release to have a brand-new sound compared to its earlier siblings.

Bartleby’s “From Top To Toe” is just that, exploring new musical boundaries for the singer-songwriter.

Have a listen below.

We reached out to Delicate, who following a recent gig at the The Old Blue Last in London will perform an exclusive Philharmonie concert in Luxembourg later in March.

How does this new track show development in BD style...

The new track from Top To Toe is for me the best of both the worlds that I have been experimenting with over the last few years.

I really love folk music but I wanted to do something different than the classic singer songwriter stuff. My my most recent tracks were more electronic but now I wanted to find the right balance between this cold electronic aesthetic and the warm organic sounds from when I first began.

From Top To Toe has both sides and for me it was the logical consequence after all the trying out with machines, synthesizers and different instruments. I am really happy with the results.

What was the inspiration behind the single?

The inspiration behind the single related to some episodes of the past. Some broken memories where I am not sure if my brain is tricking me. If things were really like that or if I am just constructing my own reality. It’s a break up song but of a different kind.

I am mostly thinking about what is real and what’s not and how there can be different narratives for the same story.

Musically, inspirations are German bands as The Notwist and Lali Puna or acts like Bon Iver, James Blake. One of my all time heroes is Daniel Johnston, his melodies are just so good.

How does this cut fit in with your plans for 2020?

At the moment I am really focusing on the songwriting and production part. It took me some time to find my own rhythm and working out just how I wanna proceed with my songs. I learnt a lot throughout the last year and currently my workflow is to just go to my rehearsal room and studio everyday in order to write a lot of songs. I’m having a great time with the music. Can’t wait to share this next wave of material as soon as it’s done.

Where are you right now?

I am currently in London. I played a show two days ago and had a really great time here. Plans for this year are to finish my EP and to release it at the end of 2020. And then... haha, to tour as much as possible, play some festivals in summer. That would be great!

The artwork for the single was designed by long-time friend and collaborator Julien Hübsch.

RTL Today will soon have a competition to win some EXCLUSIVE merchandise.

Stay Tuned.
