From French classrooms to festival stages, drummer Clément Denys has forged a career that blends teaching with touring across the global metal scene.
Renowned metal drummer and educator Clément Denys has built a reputation as one of the most technically skilled and sought-after drummers on today's international metal scene. Since joining progressive death metal band Fractal Universe in 2015, he has signed with US label Metal Blade Records and toured relentlessly across Europe, North America, and Asia.
Denys began drumming at 12, training under Olivier Baldissera (David Halliday, Anggun), Jelly Cardarelli (Klone, Adagio), and Laurent Bochetti. After earning a degree in International Finance in 2017, he abandoned corporate paths to pursue music full time, founding his own school and studio while performing with some of metal’s biggest names.
His career highlights include appearances at Hellfest, the US cruise festival 70000 Tons of Metal, and tours alongside heavyweights like Obscura, Evergrey, and The Black Dahlia Murder. In 2021, The Progspace nominated him for 'Drum Performance of the Year,' citing his precision, creativity, and relentless energy.
The start of 2025 marks a turning point: two European tours with Obscura and Beyond Creation, a US tour where he plays double duty for both Fractal Universe and Obscura, and further Asian and European dates later this year. His growing discography spans Fractal Universe, SCIAN, Oïkoumen, Exanimis, and more.
Speaking on Drive Time with Ethan Carey, Denys reflected on his journey behind the kit, sharing insights into the discipline needed for back-to-back tours, his passion for teaching, and the balance he strikes between performance and mentorship.
