With More, Sheffield legends Pulp are releasing their first new album in 24 years, landing on 6 June via Rough Trade.
Recorded in just three weeks with producer James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Beth Gibbons), More came together quickly after the band debuted new track Hymn of the North during their 2023 tour. That song "cracked the creative dam wide open", leading to a fresh wave of material – including contributions from Richard Hawley, Jason Buckle, and backing vocals from the Eno family.
String arrangements were penned by bassist Richard Jones and performed by the Elysian Collective. Jarvis Cocker describes the process as organic, immediate, and deeply collaborative.
The album’s lead single, Spike Island, pays homage to the legendary Stone Roses gig, and much of More has already been road-tested on Pulp's 2024 North American tour.
This is classic Pulp with a renewed sense of urgency – no AI, just human hands and hearts. Cocker says of the return: "This is the shortest amount of time a Pulp album has ever taken to record in the modern era. It was obviously ready to happen."
The record is dedicated to late bassist Steve Mackey and is available to pre-order now on Dark Green and Blue Sky Thinking vinyl.
The band will hit the road again in June, including two massive shows with LCD Soundsystem at the Hollywood Bowl in September. We can but hope for a stop over in the Grand Duchy.
