Tonight on The Artist Hour we feature Ben Howard, the English singer songwriter whose work moves from intimate folk to layered, atmospheric rock.

Howard broke through with his debut album Every Kingdom, a word-of-mouth success that carried songs like Only Love and Keep Your Head Up from small venues to festival stages. He followed it with I Forget Where We Were, a darker, more expansive record that showed his shift toward mood, texture, and longer forms.

Subsequent releases pushed further. Noonday Dream stretched out into spacious, hypnotic arrangements; Collections from the Whiteout brought in new collaborators and a collage-like approach to storytelling; Is It? pared things back again, focusing on tone, rhythm, and quiet intensity. Across these records, Howard has kept a through-line: understated vocals, intricate guitar work, and songs that reward close listening.

Across the hour we’ll trace that arc, from the coastal folk of the early EPs and Every Kingdom to the widescreen soundscapes of the later albums, mixing the big singles with deep cuts and live favourites.
