With their sixth and finest album yet - Different Talking - landing June 27th via Sub Pop, the indie darlings are set to have a BIG '25.
Dreamy, detailed, and drenched in that signature introspective sparkle, this record sees the NYC four-piece diving into time, memory, and the odd beauty of aging.
The current configuration of Frankie Cosmos features Greta Kline, Alex Bailey, Katie Von Schleicher, and Hugo Stanley. Kline is the only constant, but Stanley, Bailey, and Von Schleicher are crucial collaborators, and to use the names “Greta Kline” and “Frankie Cosmos” interchangeably would be incorrect.
Lead single Vanity is already turning heads (getting some spins on our playlist too), a delicate yet defiant pop anthem born from a 6.5-mile soul-searching walk through the city. "I started writing it one evening while I walked (~6.5 miles) from Tompkins Square Park to Sunset Park, speaking directly to the universe and pleading to be considered by it," says Kline. "It feels like it encompasses this push and pull between adult and kid, government and governed, planet and blade of grass."
Yes, really. They don't write them like this anymore :)
Check out Steps' interview waaay back in 2022 (see, we knew it then) on his old Lunchbox show.
This is the first Frankie Cosmos album tracked entirely by the band - Greta Kline, Alex Bailey, Katie Von Schleicher, and Hugo Stanley - and it shows. It’s rich with texture, heartfelt experimentation, and communal magic.
Different Talking is about finding that person, honoring them, and learning from them. “A lot of the album is about being grown up and figuring out how to know yourself – like, ‘What is moving on?’” says Kline. “How do we move on when we’re addicted to a cycle of haunting our own past? Writing songs is just the way through that.”
Expect synthy flourishes, twangy guitar noodles, and walls of sound that wrap Kline’s most reflective lyrics to date in cozy, expansive warmth.
Mark your calendars folks, as Different Talking is indie gold on the horizon.
