Luxembourg sprinter Patrizia Van der Weken won the 60 meters, and her compatriot, Ruben Querinjean, beaten by another Ruben, set a new national record in the 3,000 meters.
Competition was expected to be “exceptionally high” at the CMCM Luxembourg Indoor Meeting, held on Sunday at the Coque arena in Kirchberg. And the prediction proved accurate, with a flurry of standout performances and records lighting up the track.
The highlight came from Luxembourg’s Patrizia Van der Weken, who delivered the world’s best performance of the year in the 60 metres, clocking an impressive 7.14 seconds. After winning her heat, the 2025 Luxembourg Sportswoman of the Year confirmed her dominance on the indoor track, securing her fourth victory in the event at the CMCM Indoor Meeting.
Another national highlight followed in the 3,000 metres. Competing in front of a home crowd, Luxembourg’s Ruben Querinjean finished second behind Belgium’s Ruben Verheyden, who had also claimed victory last year. Despite narrowly missing out on first place, Querinjean produced a remarkable run, setting a new national record of 7:40.72.
Records continued to be set, as Victoria Rausch posted a new Luxembourg best in the 60-metre hurdles. She crossed the line in 8.08 seconds during the heats.
In the 400 metres, Fanny Arendt delivered a performance full of panache. Showing excellent form, the young athlete took control of the race late on and powered to victory in a new national record time of 2:00.83.
The men’s 400 metres also produced a standout result, with Germany’s Jean-Paul Bredau in complete control from start to finish. He stopped the clock at 45.94 seconds – the best performance of the year in the event and the fastest time ever recorded at the meeting.

Irish middle-distance runner Mark English also left his mark on the meeting, setting a new Irish national record in the 800 metres with a time of 1:44.65.
Strong performances continued in the 60-metre hurdles. Poland’s Jakub Szymański clocked the second-fastest time of the year at 7.48 seconds, while Belgium’s Elie Bacari, who finished third in the final, set a new Belgian national record of 7.50.
The women’s 1,500 metres produced another high-quality race. Ethiopia’s Samrawit Mulugeta claimed victory in 4:07.61, with France’s Adèle Gay close behind and breaking the French U23 record in 4:08.12.
In the men’s 1,500 metres, Belgian Pieter Sisk delivered one of the standout performances of the day. He set the world’s best time of the year at 3:34.63 – two seconds faster than his previous record at La Coque, which he had already held.
