Patrizia Van der Weken can use Sunday’s event as a warm-up for upcoming competitions. The athlete of the year has already secured qualification for the indoor World Championships in Poland in mid-March.
At the Coque meeting, she enters as the fastest registered athlete, boasting a personal best of 7.06 seconds over 60 meters. However, winning is not necessarily her primary goal. “It would be nice to win,” she says. “I want to put up a decent time, make a small exclamation mark, and then hopefully improve further over the next few weeks.”
Victoria Rausch is also gradually returning to top form. The hurdler, who was able to train and compete for a full season again after last year’s injury, gained confidence from her recent regional meet. “In the hurdles, I was just five hundredths off my best time. I also ran a personal best over 60 meters flat. That gives me confidence that I’m on the right track. Last summer was a strong season for me, and I’m building on that to make sure this indoor season is just as good.”
Fanny Arendt also impressed at the regional meet, setting two new national records and recording the 27th fastest time in the world over 600 meters. At the international indoor meeting, she will compete over 800 meters against tougher opposition. “I saw a Spanish athlete on the entry list, who will be a strong competitor, along with other top runners. It will be a good race, and I’m happy to have the chance to measure myself against them,” she says.
Ruben Querinjean will also compete in the 3,000 meters. All eyes will be on whether the athlete of the year can challenge Charel Grethen’s national record.
The CMCM Luxembourg Indoor Meeting will be streamed live on Sunday at 4pm on RTL Zwee and RTL.lu.
