Luxembourg cyclist Bob Jungels, who turns 34 next month, will bring his 15-year professional career to an end after this season.

"Time for a new chapter" was how Jungels announced his retirement from professional cycling in a short statement on social media.

After 15 years in the sport, Jungels said professional cycling had shaped the person he is today. He expressed his gratitude to everyone he had worked with over the years and thanked the fans who had supported him "every kilometre of the way".

Jungels signed his first professional contract in 2012 with the continental Leopard Trek team before moving to Trek's UCI squad the following year.

Among the biggest victories of his career was his triumph at the Ardennes Classic Liège–Bastogne–Liège in 2018. A year earlier, he had won a stage of the Giro d'Italia, while in 2022 he claimed a memorable Tour de France stage victory in Châtel in the Alps following a long breakaway.

Jungels is due to start the Renewi Tour in Belgium on Wednesday, with the race running until Sunday. Fellow Luxembourger Kevin Geniets will also be taking part.
