Following criticism from star athlete Jenny Warling regarding internal rumours, the Luxembourg Karate Federation (FLK) announced the appointment of a new head coach on Friday.

Spanish national Raul Cuerva Mora will assume the role on 15 December. The 29-year-old from Toledo was previously the head coach of Sweden from 2022 to 2025. As a competitor, Mora was ranked in the world’s Top 15 in the -67kg category.

Criticism by Jenny Warling

The announcement comes after Luxembourg’s top karateka, Jenny Warling, publicly highlighted several issues within the federation earlier this week. In a letter addressed to the FLK, Warling stated that rumours about the potential dismissal of head coach Raphael Veras and assistant Michaël Lecaplain had created a negative atmosphere, damaging team morale. She also expressed a sense of personal responsibility for the coaching staff’s situation.

Warling, who was eliminated early at the World Championships in Cairo last month, stressed that her preparation for the competition had been thorough and attributed her loss to simply having “a bad day”.

The FLK’s press release did not clarify the future roles of Veras and Lecaplain within the federation, nor specify whether they would remain affiliated.
