While battling the weather last weekend, the best of Luxembourg's golf was showcased as golfers played for the 2025 Champion title at the Grand Ducal Golf club in Niederanven.
After Saturday’s 36 holes, the leaderboard favoured former national champion Stefan Rojas, who held a three-shot lead over his closest rival. On the final day, challenging weather conditions had a significant impact, and Jens Buch, representing the host course, launched an impressive charge. He arrived at the 18th with a two-stroke lead, setting the stage for a tense finish as Rojas birdied the hole, increasing the pressure on Buch to sink a crucial 2m putt for par and secure victory by a single stroke.
Buch claimed the top spot on the podium with a one-shot margin over Rojas, earning both the National Amateur Champion and Mid-Am Champion 2025 titles, while Rojas finished as runner-up. Reflecting on the event, Buch said the weather was a major factor: "It was like playing on three different courses. Saturday morning, dry conditions, in the afternoon, wind and warm and today eighteen holes under the rain", he explained. "This win is super special, and I am really happy I did it, after working a lot towards it, I got it done."
On the ladies’ side, the competition was equally intense. Defending national champion Marie Baertz finished Saturday’s second round (36 holes in total) with a four-shot lead over former Federal Champion Sofia Seldemirova.
"I played a really solid game yesterday but today I was stressed, it was hard the first holes, after five or six holes I got into the rain rhythm, I haven't played in the rain in a long time because in Texas (where she attends university) it almost never rains. It happened last year too; I came second overall and Sofia first, but this year I said, I am going to take the win, today when we were on the 18th, I had a shot advantage, and we both birdied it, so I took the win!”
