Luxembourg’s top tennis player, Chris Rodesch, has made national tennis history by qualifying for the main draw at Wimbledon for the first time in his career.

On Thursday, Rodesch defeated Hungarian veteran Marton Fucsovics in four sets: 6–3, 6–4, 0–6, 7–6 (7–4). With this achievement, he becomes the first Luxembourger to reach the Wimbledon main draw since Gilles Muller in 2018 and Mandy Minella in 2019.

Fucsovics, the top seed in the qualifying rounds, posed a formidable challenge. The Hungarian previously reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals in 2021 and attained a career-high world ranking of No. 31 in 2019. Despite losing the third set 0–6, Rodesch regained composure and sealed the victory in a fourth-set tiebreak, showcasing his resilience under pressure.

This marks Rodesch’s Grand Slam main draw debut, a major milestone in his career and a proud moment for Luxembourgish tennis.

His first-round opponent will be determined in Friday’s official draw.
