The 31st edition of the Luxembourg Beach Open volleyball tournament kicked off this weekend at Gaalgebierg near Esch-sur-Alzette. The beach volleyball spectacular was launched in 1995.
60 teams, including 10 in the mixed category, will play matches across five different courts.
The sand for the courts was imported from the Belgian coast. Esch Volleyball Club is behind the mammoth organisation of the event, which requires days of preparation.
The event is not just about beach volleyball, however, with numerous parties organised after dark, drawing hundreds of attendees. The LBO After Work Party kicked off on Friday with three Djs, followed by the legendary Pitcher Beach Party on Saturday.
Qualification matches for the event were played in June at the Lux Beach Tour. The Beach Open is made up of semi-finals and finals for both men and women's teams.
In the men's semi-final, Colin Hilbert and Steve Weber emerged victorious after facing Loris Centrone andTim Mangen. They will play in Sunday's final against Lucas Pernossi and Matthis Wolff, who beat Chris Zender and Chris Zuidberg to earn their spot.
Carlotta Kauka and Lara Picht beat Marthe Lorang and Karolina Complak in the ladies' semi-final, and will play Lola Ruellan and Nadja Schaus in Sunday's final for the chance to win gold.
