Luxembourg's women's national team secured a record-breaking 7-0 victory against Liechtenstein in the Nations League on Tuesday, marking their highest-ever goal tally in an official match.
Luxembourg's women's national team on Tuesday scored a decisive win against Lichtenstein in the Nations League, thrashing their opponents 7-0 in what has been the highest goal tally in an official match recorded by the Red Lionesses.
Caroline Jorge scored the first goal of the game in the 16th minute. A mistake by goalkeeper Lucie Schlimé nearly led to an equliaser, but the national team recovered to dominate again during the last minutes before the half-time break, with Jorge and Amy Thompson scoring a goal each.
In the second half, Marta Estevez scored from the penalty spot, making 4-0. Jorge later missed another penalty, but that did little to discourage the Red Lionesses.
The onslaught thus continued with three additional goals from Ana Barbosa, Laura Miller, and Charlotte Schmit. The final score was 7-0, much to the satisfaction of the 400 spectators at the Emile Mayrisch stadium in Eschsur-Alzette.
Luxembourg is now in second place within Group 3 of League C with four points, two points behind leading Armenia, which defeated Kazakhstan 2-0.
The Red Lionesses will now face the leaders in an away game on 4 April.
