The cream of the crop of Luxembourgish athletics set new records at the National indoor championship at the Coque last Sunday.
Two weeks ago, Luxembourgish sprinter Kimberly Chinfatt set a new national record for 3,000m by clocking a time of 9'10"97, thus beating Vera Bertemes-Hoffmann's record from 2022 by around ten seconds. However, Vera Bertemes-Hoffmann reclaimed the Luxembourgish record on Sunday at the national indoor championship at the Coque in Luxembourg City by clocking a time of 9'07"54. Bertemes-Hoffmann was set back in December due to an injury, but now hopes have qualified in 1500m for the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn, Netherlands.
Additionally, Melody Koffi set a new Luxembourgish record in the triple jump with a jump of 12.36m. Another national record was also set by Stéphanie Krumlovsky in shot put with a distance of 15.24m.
The championship title was claimed by Victoria Rausch with a personal best time of 60m. Following a seven-month pause due to an injury, Rausch is performing ever better as she hurdled 60m on Sunday with a seasonal best time twice.
The current best Luxembourgish athlete Patrizia van der Weken did not participate on Sunday. Following a strong start in the season with four victories, van der Weken took a short break. She will participate at the Gold League in Madrid, Spain next week and at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in two weeks.
Neither Charel Grethen, who – in Metz – missed the chance of being qualified for the European Athletics Indoor Championships, nor Vivien Henz, who is currently taking a pause due to an injury, participate in the 1500m. Gil Weicherding won the race, while 16-year-old triathlete Sebastian Ziekman came in second with a national best time for the under 17s team.
