A fungal infection has led to additional restoration costs of approximately €100,000 for the pitch at Stade de Luxembourg, with ongoing concerns about the impact on upcoming matches.

Mayor Lydie Polfer provided an update on the Stade de Luxembourg pitch in response to a question from Luxembourg City Councillor François Benoy of the Green Party (Déi Gréng).

The pitch has been affected by a fungal infection, leading to additional restoration costs. An extra €36,000 was spent to address the issue before the match on 8 September against Belarus. Further maintenance costs of approximately €65,000 are anticipated before the next match on 15 November against Bulgaria. There is uncertainty about whether the game can proceed as scheduled.

To combat the spread of the fungus, the city administration has implemented a prevention strategy. The hybrid pitch cost €3.2 million, €250,000 more than a standard pitch in addition to higher maintenance costs.

The pitch was chosen based on a recommendation from the Luxembourg Football Federation (FLF), according to the mayor. It features a combination of natural grass and synthetic microfibers.
