Uncertainty looms over the upcoming Nations League match at the Stade de Luxembourg after irregularities in the pitch's condition were identified.
Luc Holtz, the coach of Luxembourg's national men's football team, has criticised the state of the pitch at Luxembourg Stadium, raising concerns just ten days before the Nations League match against Belarus.
Both Holtz and the Luxembourg City municipality confirmed the situation to RTL.lu, with Holtz describing the pitch as "catastrophic." He stated, "The information I received about the catastrophic state of the pitch ten days ago is incomprehensible to me. As the coach, I’m obviously concerned because it’s not ideal for our team, which has been playing high-quality football for several years now and needs a good pitch. It's all the more important for us that the pitch is in proper condition."
He also expressed bewilderment that he was only informed of the issue about ten days ago.
Despite being renewed in April, the pitch was not expected to be in such poor condition so close to the national team’s first game of the 2024/2025 season.
Soil samples have been collected for analysis, with results pending. Meanwhile, the Luxembourg City municipality stated that they are working in collaboration with the company responsible for the pitch renewal, UEFA, and the Luxembourg Football Federation (FLF) to find a solution.
