The first stage of the Skoda Tour de Luxembourg on Wednesday saw riders cycle 156.4 kilometres around the capital, starting at Neumünster Abbey and ending in Kirchberg.

The last few kilometres proved challenging for the participants, as none of the riders managed a decisive break-away from the pack despite repeated acceleration attempts. Thus, the stage ended in a mass spring, with Corbin Strong emerging victorious with the fastest time. The New Zealander came in first place, ahead of Sören Kragh Andersen and Alex Aranburu.

Alex Kirsch achieved the best finish of Luxembourg's cyclists in 8th place, while his fellow countryman Mats Wenzel currently leads the rankings for best climber.
Thibaut Pinot, David Gaudu and Jakob Fuglsang, three prominent riders, were unable to finish the stage.
