Gwyneth ten Raa was the first Luxembourgish athlete to compete in this year's Winter Olympics in Beijing, with Grand Duke Henri watching on.
Unfortunately, the 16-year-old missed an early gate during her debut performance in the women's giant slalom and was forced to abandon the race after only a few seconds.
Henri, the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, attended the event and was pictured in conversation with the young athlete.
It may come as a small consolation that defending champion Mikaela Shiffrin (USA) was also eliminated from the race prematurely after a similar mistake. Furthermore, Ten Raa will have another chance to shine in the women's slalom race later on in the Games.

Sara Hector from Sweden won gold in the women's giant slalom, while Frederica Brignone from Italy won silver, and Lara Gut Behrami from Switzerland bronze.
The men's giant slalom was won by Beat Feuz (SUI), followed by Johan Clarey (FRA), and Mathias Mayer (AUT).
