With Vum Lëtzebuerger Bauer, Cactus is raising the profile of its local supply chains and the people who keep them going. A shared identity that helps us better identify where our food comes from and discover the expertise behind it.
Choosing local can also start with the products that form part of our daily diet: a seasonal salad, organic bread, Luxembourg chicken, a rib of beef, a lamb chop or even Bio Green Beef.
With 335 products, Vum Lëtzebuerger Bauer makes it possible to incorporate local produce into many meals and moments throughout the day.
Behind this diversity lies, above all, a network built up over the years with local stakeholders.
The story began in 1996 with the first Luxembourg beef supply chain. Since then, the initiative has gradually expanded and now comprises seven supply chains: beef, seasonal fruit and vegetables, organic young beef, Luxembourg chicken, organic cereals, organic lamb and organic pork.
In total, these bring together 188 partner producers.
Livestock farmers, market gardeners, cereal growers, artisans and butchers: before reaching the shops, every product involves the work of men and women, different trades and specialist skills.
And for the consumer, these producers should not remain anonymous.
On the products in question, the producer’s name appears on the label. A simple marker that lets you know who is behind what you’re buying and helps create a more direct link to its origin.
Because choosing local isn’t just about looking at where a product was grown or reared. It’s also about having clearer information to better understand what you’re putting in your shopping basket.
This is particularly evident with fruit and vegetables.
Luxembourg apples, damsons or tomatoes aren’t available all year round. Their availability in shops depends on the seasons and harvests.
Finding a product at the right time allows us to reconnect with a truth that is sometimes forgotten: nature has its own calendar.
Choosing local therefore sometimes means accepting that you have to wait for a product to return, then making the most of its season when it arrives.
For nearly thirty years, Cactus has been working with its partners to develop supply chains designed to promote local produce and the expertise of those who bring it to life.
With Vum Lëtzebuerger Bauer, these commitments are now brought together under a single identity, one that is more visible and easier to recognise in-store.
This is not, therefore, a new range, but a way of making the partnerships built up over the years clearer and providing shoppers with more guidance when they’re doing their shopping.
Next time you’re at Cactus, look out for Vum Lëtzebuerger Bauer: check the product’s origin and find out who’s behind it.
Because behind ‘local’ lies a region, expertise and, above all, the men and women who produce these goods for you.
