FIRES OVERNIGHT – A fire broke out at an industrial building in Soleuvre shortly before 4am earlier this morning. Rescue services say three fire brigades were called in. No one was hurt. Firefighters have generally had a busy night, being called out nine times. Vegetation, a house, a container, rubbish, a bin, and a railway track all caught fire. No one was injured.

FRIEDEN PARIS – Prime Minister Luc Frieden is in Paris today and tomorrow for France's national day celebrations, at the invitation of President Macron. Beforehand, he will join a meeting of the “Coalition of the Willing”, where leaders will discuss support for Ukraine and EU security, followed by a dinner hosted by Macron. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel is attending the EU's Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels today. The agenda includes Russia's war against Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East.

MISSING PERSON – The search for a Dutch man missing since 2016 has now reached Luxembourg's Muellerthal Trail. Sidney Lute vanished in Alsace, France, aged 19, and flyers offering a €10,000 reward have been spotted near Echternach, put up by his family in hopes Dutch tourists might have clues. Luxembourg police say they are not actively involved in the case.

World

FRANCE FOREST FIRE – A wildfire that has scorched 800 hectares in the Fontainebleau forest south of Paris is being called exceptional in scale. Around 400 firefighters are battling the blaze, with two water bombers deployed and roughly 15 homes evacuated near Vaudoue. The A6 motorway has been partly closed and rail services disrupted, on the first big holiday weekend of the summer. It's France's third heatwave since May, and has already forced three nuclear power stations offline and a shortened stage on the Tour de France.

THAILAND FIRE – At least 27 people have died in a fire at a bar in Bangkok, with 60 injured, 22 of them critically. The blaze broke out just before midnight. Survivors say guests fled to the toilets, where there was no emergency exit.

IRAN WAR – The US has struck Iran again overnight, targeting missile sites, air defences, and Revolutionary Guard boats, the fourth such strike since the conflict flared up again last Wednesday. Iran has hit back at targets in the Gulf and says the Strait of Hormuz will stay closed until US forces leave.

TENNISJannik Sinner has won the Wimbledon men’s final, following a four-set tight match in 3 hours and 46 minutes. He is only the 10th man in the Open era to retain the Wimbledon men’s singles title.

CYCLING – Mathieu van der Poel won his third Tour de France stage yesterday with victory in the ninth stage, which was shortened due to intense heat.

FOOTBALL – A month after the expanded, 48-team tournament kicked off, the World Cup is down to the semi-final stage with France and Spain preparing to face off on Tuesday before holders Argentina renew their bitter rivalry with England the following day.

Meteolux has announced a nationwide yellow alert for heat, warning of moderate heat stress, fatigue and exhaustion with prolonged exposure or physical activity. Much like the previous days, expect sunshine, clear skies, and blazing heat. Temperatures will start at 22°C in the morning, with highs of 30–32°C in the afternoon.
