Throughout their 43-year existence, the American heavy metal band Megadeth have released multiple platinum-selling albums, gone through numerous line-up switch-ups, and finally reached #1 on the Billboard 200 charts with their latest studio album, Megadeth, released in 2026.

Led throughout by Dave Mustaine, Megadeth have become a titan of the thrash metal scene and a must-know for metalheads more generally. In a statement last year, he said that the current tour in support of their self-titled album would be a final bow, a farewell dedicated to the fans and to the scene.

But, as he explained in an interview with Kerrang!, the tour could last for three to five years.

With recent shake-ups to their line-up, it appears that Megadeth are in their final form. Alongside frontman Mustaine, Belgian Dirk Verbeuren plays on drums, James LoMenzo has returned as the bassist, and Teemu Mäntysaari joins as the latest addition on lead guitar and backing vocals.
