
TÉLÉVIE – The Télévie fundraising campaign has raised over €1.5 million in Luxembourg this year, bringing the total to over €30 million since 2002, as part of a long-running cross-border initiative supporting cancer research. RTL hosted the main fundraising day live on Saturday. Throughout the year, individuals, volunteers, clubs, associations, and businesses participated in Télévie. Since 2002, around €30 million has been raised through the event in Luxembourg.
CONGRESS OF CRÉMANTS – Luxembourg’s winemakers scooped 28 gold and 10 silver medals at the 35th Congress of Crémants from France and Luxembourg. The event was held in Mondorf this weekend and is hailed as one of the most prestigious crémant competitions in the region. A jury of 180 wine tasters took part, and of the 457 samples put to the test a quarter of them were from Luxembourg producers who competed alongside entries from eight French regions.
E-SCOOTER INCIDENT – Police seized an e-scooter following an accident in Luxembourg city at the weekend. At around 4pm on Saturday, police were called to Rue de Bonnevoie, where two men had minor injuries following an incident. Police believe the pair had been riding the e-scooter together when they lost control and fell. The vehicle was seized on direction of the Public Prosecutor’s office and it was confirmed that its top speed significantly exceeded the legal limit.
US SHOOTING – In the US, a father has shot dead eight children, seven of whom were his own. According to American police, shots were fired in Shreveport, Louisiana, on Sunday morning. Shortly after 6am (local time), a domestic dispute broke out, in which a man opened fire. Eight children between the ages of 1 and 14 were killed and two other people were injured. He acted alone, and after fleeing he was shot dead by police during a pursuit.
BABY FOOD RECALL – Rat poison was detected in a jar of HiPP baby food in Austria, prompting a recall and a criminal investigation into suspected tampering. As part of the probe, police have also seized jars of the product in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. HiPP said on Sunday that its “production, quality, and control processes are fully intact” and the incident “is in no way related to product quality or production”.
MUSK SUMMONED BY FRANCE – Billionaire Elon Musk has been summoned for a voluntary interview in Paris today, as part of a French probe into his social media platform X. French authorities issued a summons for Musk in February as part of an investigation, launched in January 2025, into allegations that X’s algorithm was used to interfere in French politics. The probe was later expanded to include an investigation into X’s AI chatbot Grok’s dissemination of Holocaust denials and sexual deepfakes.
MOTORSPORT – Veteran endurance driver Juha Miettinen was killed in a seven-car pile-up during a race at Nürburgring in Germany on Saturday, prompting organisers to suspend the event. The race, which also featured four-time Formula One world champion Max Verstappen, was halted after the accident with organisers suspending the event. It was part of the Nuerburgring Langstrecken Series (NLS) qualifiers for a 24-hour race to be held in May, in which Verstappen is set to take part.
FOOTBALL – Arsenal suffered a 2-1 defeat at the Etihad Stadium yesterday, putting a huge dent in the Gunners’ hopes of a first Premier League title in 22 years. Mikel Arteta’s men remain on top of the table for now but could be knocked off their perch for the first time in 2026 when City, with a game in hand, visit doomed Burnley on Wednesday. Arsenal had lost just three times in 49 games this season before last month’s League Cup defeat to City.
Luxembourg women’s World Cup hopes have been dented after a second defeat by Israel. The women’s national team suffered a 1-3 defeat to Israel on Saturday evening at the BSC Stadium in Budaörs, Hungary, despite taking an early lead. After the early goal from Kimberley Dos Santos, Israel managed to turn the match around, leaving the Red Lionesses waiting for their first point.
