Black Summer – Netflix
Six weeks after the start of the zombie apocalypse, Rose is separated from her daughter Anna while being evacuated from their suburban home by the military. As they were supposed to be brought to a stadium where they would find shelter, Rose decides to stick to that plan, hopping it will get her to Anna.
On her way there she meets other refugees and they start helping each other, finding shelter together against the zombies.
In contrast to other zombie shows, the living dead in “Black Summer” are fast. Really fast. And they retain some of the intelligence they had when they were still alive, which makes it much harder to get rid of them than in other shows. Consequently, the characters are constantly on the run or hiding, which makes for a breathless pace of the show, keeping the viewer on the edge of the seat.
“Black Summer”, a prequel to “Z-Nation”, is less about how people fight each other and more about how they react differently to a world that has only recently been changed, and where the hope that all this will end well still keeps them going.
Black Summer is available on Netflix.
