Rick Grimes, a sheriff’s deputy is shot in the line of duty and falls into a coma. When he wakes up after a few months, the zombie-apocalypse has destroyed the world he knew. Desperate to find his wife and son, Rick bands together with a handful of other survivors. Over time he becomes the leader of a community searching for a safe place to live and reestablish civilization, while coming again and again across other similar groups that have been more or less successful in that regard.
“The Walking Dead” – the comic – was a post-apocalyptic comic book series created by writer Robert Kirkman and artist Tony Moore and was first published in 2003 by Image Comics. It ran for 193 issues and ended in 2019.
“The Walking Dead” – the TV show – premiered in 2010. The show doesn’t follow the books to the letter, creating different story arcs for characters that appear in the books or by adding characters that aren’t in the books. One of the hallmarks of the show is that it doesn’t hesitate to kill off well liked main characters to develop the story, giving the other characters the means to evolve in the universe of the show. This way, most of the characters that are still on the show have become unrecognizable from how they started out, having had to adapt in order to survive.
“The Walking Dead” is available on Netflix.
